JAISALMER-THE BUMPY FUN RIDE

Indian winters are the best to travel and my dream to roll and topple over the sand dunes was something which dragged me over to the GOLDEN CITY-JAISALMER…

It was the last city in our Rajasthan itinery after the breathtaking forts in Jaipur, the serene lake city of Udaipur, the blue confines of Jodhpur…

It was a sun kissed afternoon on December 27th when i had the first glimpse of the golden city..n yes indeed the yellow glow of the limestone architecture gives the impression of the glowing city..no doubt its UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE…

We hurriedly checked in to our hotel..the same hotel deals with the desert tour so it was way convenient for us to travel with them..The tour operator was MYSTIC JAISALMER and it truly lives up to the sufi spirit as its name suggests. Quotes by great Sufi saint RUMI adorns the wall of the hotel…

After a hearty lunch in the rooftop restaurant we started for my maiden tour to sand dunes..passing through the ancient ruins of Kuldhara village and few exotic resorts on our way..

The car stopped on highway and the driver told us that from here we have to go to dunes on camel back..seeing the camels lazing and basking in sun made me scared..i am hardly five feet and few inches and the gigantic camel Omg i was not at all sure of this adventorous ride..few minutes later i was trying all my gymnastic tricks to just hop on the camel hunch..i was nervous actually more than that..my palms were sweaty ,heart was beating..i camel rose up with a leap and i was 10 feet up the ground waving bye to the other camels..i was murmuring prayers to reach safely and nagging my husband for this so called adventorous idea. .but under my shallow breathing i was just confident of him catching me if i ever fall..

The vegetations changed now the grass was lending hand to shrubs and few cactus and of course i could see the sand dunes…yayyyyy….my tachycardia was getting controlled now and i was getting comfortable with lifting my own weight left and right on camel back as it was rising up and down the dunes..

After an hour of camel ride we finally landed safely on ground and the view was breathtaking and worth risking my fear for..vast expanse of the sand waves was just awesome..the child in me was delighted to see the sand flowing through my fingers everytime i tried clenching it..

HAPPY ME SOAKING IN SAND

The feel was great and i must say the sunset in the desert was one of the most amazing moment me and my husband shared on this trip. The solace of the desert and the roar of the wind and the colours of the setting sun was mersmerising..

The day still had a lot to offer to make it so much special..which i will save for my next post..

love travelling love thyself..cya soon..

Very nicely written….straight from the heart! I was at the same place few months back! The Mystic Jaisalmer folks are superb…they arranged a superb stay and trip for us too…

I love riding camels and did a solo run for 15-odd minutes going up and down those sand dunes…was so much fun! and the bike ride from the Hotel to Kuldhara and then the camp site was superb too…

Keep penning…waiting for your next piece…

    Cheers,
